These Aren't Your Father's GIFs

Most of the animations we'll make together are animated GIFs. You may be surprised at how much you can do with animation in this format. These projects help you understand how to design and optimize GIF animations that run smoothly and are small enough to be of real use on the Web.

We take you places you may not have known you could go with animated GIFs. In the Rollover-Triggered Animation project, you'll learn how to use rollovers in conjunction with multiple animations to make an interactive mood changer. (Roll here and she smiles. Roll there and she's very angry.) You'll continue in that vein with the Image Map-Triggered Animation project, where you learn when and how to use an image map rather than a slice to trigger a remote animation.
